Things We Can Learn from a Dog

  1. Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joy ride.
  2. Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure ecstasy.
  3. When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.
  4. When it's in your best interests, always practice obedience.
  5. Let others know when they've invaded your territory.
  6. Take naps and always stretch before rising. (And in my dog's case, sit right back down)
  7. Run, romp and play daily.
  8. Eat with gusto and enthusiasm.
  9. Be loyal.
  10. Never pretend to be something you're not.
  11. If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.
  12. When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by and nuzzle them gently.
  13. Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.
  14. Thrive on attention and let people touch you.
  15. Avoid biting when a simple growl will do.
  16. On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree.
  17. When you are happy, dance around and wag your entire body.
  18. No matter how often you are criticized, don't buy into the guilt thing and pout. Run right back and make friends.

Long Time No See

I am officially the worst blogger in all of history. I have not blogged since August. However, I make no apologies. This school year has been one of the busiest I have ever had. My junior year of college is about to come to an end, and I feel as though it just started. I have been working very hard, and some wonderful things have happened to me. But I do not even want to attempt to catch you up on what I've been doing because that would take entirely too long, and would require great effort on my part. It's been a blur.
I am blogging right now, and it's short and sweet. I am not going to make any promises that I will be a better blogger, and try to update every week or something ridiculous like that. Let's face it, life happens and we all get busy. But every now and then, if I get the urge, a blog might appear. So don't lose faith followers.

My Catch Up Blog

Wow, it's been over a month since I've posted...

Well so much has happened, I've been very busy. Let me see, where to begin...

Our vacation to Atlanta turned into a vacation to the beach. Due to many different reasons, it was much easier for us to go to the beach for a few days. We used a beach house that belongs to one of my dad's customers, and we got a great deal. The house is in Oak Island, and it was really nice. We spent most days at the beach, but we also went into Wilmington and saw UNCW because my sister might go there when she graduates. We also went to several different filming locations for the show One Tree Hill, which is one of our favorites :). Unfortunately the set was closed and they weren't offering tours on the weekend, so we didn't get to meet the cast but we did see the outside of the Clothes Over Bros store/Karen's Cafe, and the rivercourt. It was very interesting. We also went to Calabash for their store Callahan's nautical gifts, just like we usually do when we go to the beach, and had seafood at one the of the many "original" Calabash restaurants.

When we got home I had to babysit and Alex was home from New Jersey. He only had a few days before he had to leave for school, and so we decided that I would go back to NCSU with him for a few days, because we never get to celebrate our anniversary together because of school. So I went to Raleigh for a few days, and for an early anniversary celebration we made each other a stuffed animal at build-a-bear. Those few days were tough because my Great Uncle Ralph passed away, and it was very sad, he was such a wonderful man. And because of the Amtrak train schedules, I wasn't able to get back to town for his funeral, which I regret very much. It's so conflicting being in a place where you're stuck and can't be with family, but you really also need to be with your love. But, nevertheless, Alex helped me through it, and without him I don't know where I would be.

So our 3rd anniversary came and went while I was at home and he was at school, like it usually does. We're strong though, and we both know that after we achieve our personal goals, we can settle down, and start our lives. It's hard but it will be worth it in the end.

Last weekend was rather eventful as well. I found out on Saturday that my classes this semester started on Monday. All summer I had believed that classes started Wednesday. It was pure luck that I checked, and so I had to rush to get ready for school. Thankfully my dad and I were able to get all of my books, and I didn't miss my first two days of school. Only I could make such a knuckle-head mistake, haha. My semester is going to be a rough one. It's my junior year, and I expected a lot of work, so I am slammed with so much homework already.

In an effort to make up for the two extra days I thought that I had to prepare myself, my family and I went to Ikea yesterday. I'm living at home this school year and commuting because it's much less expensive, and campus is only 30 minutes away from where I live, give or take traffic. So I needed a place to actually work. I'm not the type of person that can do homework and write papers without a work place. I don't have a desk at home, because in my dorm I always had a desk and a place where I could work. So my parents were generous enough to buy a desk for me, along with some other things for my room. Now I am much more prepared to tackle my homework (which is what I'm supposed to be doing right now).

Anyway, with school four days a week, and babysitting on top of that, I am constantly moving, and not getting very much sleep. Waking up at 6:30 and sometimes 5:30 is hard to get used to, but I'm sure my body will eventually become accustomed to my long days. Once I'm more adjusted to my schedule, I will try to be a better blogger. Stay tuned...

Missing my boo.

Alex and I have had a really good summer. Maybe I'm just being nostalgic for the time when we were both home and could see each other every weekend, but I'm not ready for summer to end yet. I'm ready for him to come home from NJ. But then as you can see from my last post I will be leaving. I'm definitely not ready for him to go back to school yet. We are very strong, it just sometimes gets to me when he's gone. But this summer has been great, we had picnics and saw baseball games and probably 100 movies. From swimming to just hanging out, we spent so much time together and I cherish every minute we have. I keep looking forward to the day when we can graduate and settle down together. Just gotta make it through a few more years. On our 3rd anniversary there will be a post about how far we've come with pictures from when we first started dating :).

To Do List

So Alex is in New Jersey visiting his family, and our 3rd anniversary is coming up. I haven't exactly decided what I'm getting him, as far as presents go. I have a couple of ideas, and I'm sorry I can't fill you in, just in case he reads this. Al comes home on the 8th and then I leave with my family to go to Atlanta on the 9th, then I get home on Wednesday the 12th. But then Alex leaves to go back to NC State on Saturday the 15th. So ughh, our anniversary plans are rushed, as usual. We have only spent one actual anniversary together because alas, college keeps us separated most of the time. Our anniversary is the 20th, and we usually celebrate it early, when time allows. So since I babysit full time on Thursday the 13th and Friday the 14th, we have to squeeze our date in Thursday or Friday night.

(Bare with me, this blog is a stream of consciousness.)

So on my to do list is to get Alex's present, and I always get more than one thing because I can't resist. I also need to get a birthday present for Caden, one of the boys I babysit, his birthday is the 11th. But I have to do this before August 9th (when we leave for Atlanta) and without a car. I will have to work it in whenever I can get a ride to the mall or a store or something.

Then after Alex leaves I have to worry about school supplies and books and parking. I start my junior year of college on August 26th, it is sooooo close!! AAAHH!! I'm excited but this semester is going to be nothing but writing paper after paper after paper. But my schedule is great! I have classes on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:30 - 3:15 with a break for lunch and classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 - 12:15. None on Friday, as usual. I have never had a single Friday class. Pretty awesome. My weekend starts at 12:15 on Thursday so I will have plenty of time to write those papers. Except if all goes according to plan I will still be babysitting on Thursday afternoons and on Friday all day. But that's not definite yet.

Anyway, I have a few more days of relaxation, and vacation in Atlanta should be fun, but it's just a few days. Our family life is chaotic with everyone working random schedules and different days, so 4 days is all we could squeeze in. But that's life.

Being busy I haven't had much time to blog, but I've tried to update as much as possible. So stick with me, I'll try and blog about the anniversary :) and babysitting and Atlanta, and eventually back to school.

Hope everyone is having a great summer! Sorry it's gone by soooooo fast.

How I've Spent My Summer So Far

I have spent my summer babysitting the coolest kids ever. I wasn't lying when I said they were creative. Besides building awesome towers out of blocks (^^see above^^), we dance and play guitar, make water slides in the backyard and build forts in the playroom. Enjoy :)
